We lived in an AirBnB rented cabin on the lower Obersalzberg and carefully planned according to the weather forecast which day we would visit Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest to get the most out of the trip.

We took the Obersalzbergbahn from the bottom of Berchtesgaden, then hiked 40 minutes with my 10 year old daughter and took the bus from the Kelstein Departure Point.
This a great trip with a child and very satisfying because of the beautiful view all the way up with the ObersalzbergBahn and then we could “feel” the WW2 atmosphere on the hike while seeing several bunkers and wall from the old SS regiment located on Obersalzberg.

On the above picture i’ve taken you can see Obersalzberg and the beginning of Berchtesgaden. As the pictures show we had 100 % visibility which of course made the trip even better. I’ve talked to some tourists in Berchtesgaden later in our vacation and they had a trip with clouds and low visibility which affected the overall experience.
